Eclectic St Louis Stores Field Trip

Yesterday, we decided to take a day off and enjoy some time together touring some eclectic St Louis stores.  We had breakfast, and went to some rather great independently-owned shops in the St Louis Area that we had never visited (and mind you… I have lived in St Louis since August of 2000!!! – I know, right!)

We visited three great eclectic St Louis stores: Gringo Jones Imports, The Bug Shop, and The Little Shop Around the Corner.

Let’s start with our first stop on our eclectic St Louis store field trip, Gringo Jones Imports.  All I can say is…WOW…what an amazing place.

The first thing I noticed was the beautiful boxer dogs (real of course) that come to work with their owners every day.  They are friendly and sweet, and sit right in the front window where beauty should be displayed.  Gringo Jones have some truly unique items for gifts for others or treasures for yourself (and I love treasures).  You will find anything from Talavera pottery and metal work to beautiful antique furniture pieces (at awesome prices I must add). This eclectic St Louis store has really amazing items.  It’s evident this is a wonderful store the moment you approach the entrance, as the whole outside is lined with hundreds of iron and metal sculptures, metal gates, concrete fountains and yard statues that are so lovely you want buy them all right away.  This little shop’s three floors are packed floor to ceiling, so you want to make sure to stop and look at every nook of this wonderful shop.  Gringo Jones Imports is located at 4470 Shaw Boulevard St Louis Mo.  You can reach them by phone at 314-664-1666.  They are open 10-6 every day.  Trust me when I say if you are close to St Louis, MO, you do not want to miss this great shopping experience. – PS – I have my eye on an 1800’s French Country China display case – you must see this piece – it’s a total OMG!

Our next eclectic St Louis store stop, was The Bug Store located at 4474 Shaw Boulevard, St Louis Mo (314) 773-9251, and the great thing is, the Bug Store is right next door to Gringo Jones Imports (you have to love a field trip in St Louis on a 30 degree December day where you can walk and see all kinds of greatness).

What is even more incredible is this little store has a second location at 113 Argonne St. in Kirkwood, MO (314) 966-2287.  This beautiful little shop was all decked out for Christmas as we walked in and were greeted by a row of all white Christmas trees filled with wonderful ornaments.  The Bug Store has been in St Louis for 25 years, and has import sources from around the world.  The store is eclectic with much to see.  There were a few things that caught my eye, they have a unique table upstairs made of a tree trunk, a room of the most beautiful lamps I have seen in a long time and some gorgeous Fairy Gardens made from air plants that are to die for.  The Bug Store has a large collection of air plants and various glass globes to grow the air plans.  It was neat to know they make air plant arrangements for parties and weddings.  So if you’re looking for a unique flower arrangement for your wedding in 2014, you have to stop at The Bug Store and see these awesome center pieces.  They are open M-F 10-6 or 5, Sat 10-5 and Sunday 12-5 depending on location, so make sure you call for hours.  Website: http://www.bugstore.com/index.php  – PS I bought some beautiful trinkets to make a special art piece for my office that will become a later post – see you never know what you will find!

When we finished the Bug Store, we moseyed over to our last eclectic St Louis store, the Little Shop Around the Corner, and it is literally across the street on the corner from The Bug Shop at 4744 Castleman Ave., St. Louis, MO you can rich them by phone at (314) 577-0891 or check out their blog at http://www.littleshop.org/sale.aspx.

Eclectic St Louis stores - Little Shop Around the Corner

Little Shop Around the Corner is an antique and collectible shop that resells vintage merchandise that has been donated to the Missouri Botanical Garden.  Everything taken in and sold in this quaint little shop supports the Botanical Garden’s research and educational objectives to help preserve plant life.  This great little shop shows us all how we can conserve by buying vintage, which helps provide less environmental changes because these items were not tossed into our landfills.  This little jewel of a shop as brought to life by Trustee Evelyn Newman.  You will be excited as you comb through this little treasure box of wonderful high-quality furniture, artwork, vintage jewelry, silver, china, and other accent furnishings.   But the wonderful thing, all of the proceeds from the donated items sold benefit the Missouri Botanical Garden (another must see if you are in the St Louis Area so I added the link to their page!)  Oh, and become a member of the Botanical Gardens because members receive a 10% discount on Little Shop merchandise, and you are helping to support the botanical Gardens all at one time – a Win-Win in Hello I Live Here’s book 😉

Eclectic St Louis stores World Fair Donut

We topped off our eclectic St Louis store field trip by stopping at the famous World Fair Donuts on 1904 S. Vandeventer Ave., St Louis Mo, (314) 776-9975. (World’s Fair fans, did you note their address?) They are open till 3 pm, so we just slid in under the wire!  I am a lover of cake donuts and let me tell you, this donut will not disappoint you, as they are pure perfection!  Never have I ever had such a treat. And if you show up early, I am sure you will get the full effect of that big glowing red donut sign.
