DIY Dresser Country Chic Paints

Hey guys – It’s been a long while since I posted anything and I apologize for that but it’s been crazy busy at Hello I Live Here –  so to make up for it today let me tell you about our DIY Dresser Country Chic Paints today.

DIY Dresser Country Chic Paints

We partnered with Country Chic Paint to show you this awesome new chalk style paint that has quite a following already. We completed a lovely dresser of an older style that just screamed for a bright setting and Tropical Cocktail color and Simplicity white, followed by a coat of the Tough Coat Clear, which lived right up to its name.

DIY Dresser Country Chic Paints

This DIY Dresser Country Chic Paints was started by cleaning first with a little cleaner.  I let the dresser dry completely and wiped down with a second wet cloth so there would be no OxiClean left that could attach to the country chic paint, I do this with every brand of paint I use regardless, it’s just a good practice to start with a clean furniture – and this is the reason why – look at how stunning this!

DIY Dresser Country Chic Paints

Then I got started – I painted the sides and top of the dresser first with white creamy, Simplicity color.  It went on like silk, was easy to control, very low streaking with the brush, and dried in an amazing chalk like finish.  I completed 2 coats on the dresser, not because the first coat did not cover, but because it is my preference to paint every piece this way, regardless of the expense.  I love rich furniture and 2 coats complete this for me.

DIY Dresser Country Chic PaintsWhile drying, I moved on to the drawers where I added the Tropical Cocktail color of a turquoise blue.  It’s amazing, vibrant and rich on the piece.  It too moved on the brush like silk, and dried with that wonderful chalk paint finish we have all come to expect from other brands.

Using the rest of the Simplicity White Paint – I added this lovely Martha Stewart Stencil from Michaels.  I love how it brought the piece to life. 🙂

Once the piece dried, I coated the whole thing with 2 coats of tough coat.  It worked amazing, dried tough, but gave a low shine finish you want for cleaning, but that lovely appeal you want when your furniture is making a statement.  Check out those burlap handles from Hobby Lobby 😉 fancy!

Modern Masters Metallic Paint Collection

A great big HELLO everyone as we share with you our clock end table makeover completed with Modern Masters Paints Metallic Collection.

Modern masters PaintsWell, let me give you some back ground on this ugly little table moving to the villa the table’s top was damaged.  I loved the base, but hated what happened to the top, that was now peeling, looked awful and the glass was all broken when we unwrapped her.

Clock End Table Makeover

Looking past what happened, because – well – stuff happens – it was my goal to take the base, beautiful iron legs and make it  something new – and you all know how crazy I am about clocks ;-).

Clock End Table Makeover

Hubby kept saying “toss it out” however, I could not let it go – a total – Hello my name is Linda and I have a junk collection problem (I hear your voices now saying “welcome Linda!” LOL).

Clock End Table Makeover

When rearrange the shop the other day for a new delivery of finds, I pulled out the broken table and finally told hubby it was this broken tables lucky day.  I sat up the base, walked around it, walked away from it, had lunch, walked out the door into the shop and it hit me…wouldn’t this be an awesome clock, hence – clock end table makeover!

Well, not having a clock that size, I had to do some recon work.  I bought one – too small, had one, would fit in the old ring, but did not scream clock end table makeover.  So over coffee, I was posting and reading, reading and posting, and bam an ad from my favorite store Hobby Lobby popped up.  My eyes bugged and I could not believe what I saw, 50% off all clocks in stock (even more on the sale racks).  It was happening and this was the sign that this clock end table makeover was going down.

Clock End Table Makeover

I finished posting for my Facebook readers, and I ran to get dolled up (real clothing instead of my scrub set full of paint and saw dust 😉 ) and I blazed out the door with my feet on fire as hubby just shook his head.  I walked into Hobby Lobby and it was like the angels were singing (and we know angels do sing in Hobby Lobby – or is that just me being too loud) ;-). As I looked up, there it stood – just waiting for me to snatch it right off the shelf (the sale shelf that is) – we will not discuss price on this one, well, because hubby is reading and we need to keep a few secretes – right 😉 – but I promise what I paid was worth it.

Into the cart it went with several other items and off for home.  I sprang from the car grabbed the clock and sat it on top of the base and bam, it was a true fit, and only eyeballed it in the store! It was made for the base and it was saved by a 50% off Hobby Lobby trip!  Gleaming with delight – I got to work.  Here’s what I did.

I careful laid the clock onto the work table with a blanket under it.  Then I marked the holes from the base where I would attach the clock, and I drilled the holes using my Ryobi 18V drill driver and inserted mollies to make sure of the hold. I sat the clock aside to attach later (Ryobi is sold exclusively at the Home Depot or check out Ryobi Nation.)

The metal part of the base was repainted with Modern Masters Paint – Black Pearl, from Reineke Decorating Center in Des Peres, Mo on Manchester, and letting it dry according to directions. (It was last minute I purchased this color – if I would have known I need this color, I would have asked to have it shipped – but I was glad they had a retailer close by).

Clock End Table Makeover

The colors you see on the wood base is flat black and a mix of others from the oopsy paint from Behr and the Home Depot, added some dark brown to lighten the cream color and pulled it all together using an awesome paint by Modern Masters Paints.

Gift Blocks

Gift Block completed

Want to light up someone’s life with Gift Blocks?

Hello I Live Here is taking a break from our wood working today to sharing how to make these beautiful Gift Blocks for Christmas.

Gift Blocks from Hello I Live Here

We all know glass blocks have been used in home improvement projects like shower walls, windows, and various other uses for years.  Now, they are being used to make wonderful gift blocks.  When I first started making gift blocks, I had to drill the hole into the gift blocks myself with a diamond bit and water running over the block – It was a lot of work getting that tiny hole into that thick block, but worth every minute of joy these blocks brought to the receiver of the gift.

Glass gift blocks light up and are presented with beautiful ribbon that make people light up with delight.  I like to tailor the ribbons on my gift blocks to the personality of the receiver through color and pattern.   These wonderful gift blocks can also be used for party invitations, valentine’s day, breast cancer survivors gifts, anniversaries, and birthday gifts to that special someone.  Just add a touch of imagination to these wonderful clear Deco gift Blocks, and it can be beautiful for any special occasion.

The solid glass deco gift blocks features a 4 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ oval opening with clear plastic cover. The elongated cover also has a smaller, round 1 5/16″ hole with a clear, flexible plug with key hole in the center that will allow you to easily transform your glass gift blocks into a decorative light without cutting or drilling into the glass.

Deco Block

I no longer have to drill the hole because Deco Block has done it for you!  Deco Block has placed a 4 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ oval opening with a clear plastic cover into the gift block.  It has a smaller round 1 5/16″ clear flexible plug with a key hole you simply place the plug into and bam, your block is ready to decorate.  You can purchase them at Hobby Lobby all season long.  Lowe’s and Home Depot both carry these blocks during the holiday season.  I purchase my ribbon from Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Joann’s (look for after Christmas sales for great savings).  You can find the lights at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Joann or Big Lots, as they always carry the smaller strings.

Now let’s get started putting your gift block together 🙂

First, gather all the items you need. Then open the gift  block and insert a string of 20 mini lights into the block, and snap the plastic piece with the key hole plug onto the block securing the lights inside.

Things you need to create block   Insert Lights

Next, plug in the lights.  Viewing the block lit while putting on the ribbon helps you figure out where the best place is to set the bow.  I wrap a good amount around the block so I have enough ribbon to complete a package tie, and cut the ends of the ribbon into a V shape.

Wrapping your gift block

Then I start to create the bow.  I fold the ribbon around into an oval shape six times, all going the same direction.  I make my own bows because I love them very full, and you can never find a store bought bow to match your ribbon. Cut two slits, one on each side of the bow at the diagonal and pull wire through the cuts and twist to pinch the bow together. Fold the bow into half and tighten with wire or ribbon to the tied package  gift block. Cut the ends of the ribbon in a V shape.

Creating Bow Step 1

Now, pull out each bow loop until you have a full ribbon.

Pulling Ribbon to form bow

Hot glue beautiful ornaments or piece you love into the center of the bow.  This gives the present that little something, something that makes it stand out. 😉

Now your gift block is complete!

Completed gift block

Wasn’t that simple?  I love making these blocks.  They are always a big hit, and people will light them up year after year and think of the person who gave them the gift block.

Well, that’s our post for today – Hope you enjoy making your gift block!  Thanks for stopping by Hello I Live Here – Please feel free to Pin, tweet, or share our gift block on Facebook with your friends and family.

Linda 🙂
