Waxing Furniture

Waxing Furniture

Waxing furniture, we all, who work with painted pieces have to do it!  I have loads of people asking me how to get the wax to shine after using Annie Sloan Wax applications.  I hear things like, the wax is too stiff, there is wax left on my furniture, and the furniture does not shine up like it should. I also hear, I give up – I used poly over my Annie Sloan Chalk paint – Noooooo – don’t – why – because every brush stroke shows through from the chalk paint and chalk paint is made to go with the wax for a reason.  Just get the right tools – I do not know about you, but when waxing furniture, Hello I Live Here uses the exclusive help of RYOBI TOOLS.

That’s right – Ryobi makes the best tool around when it comes to waxing furniture for Hello I Live Here.  We use the Ryobi Orbital Buffer.  This awesome tool offers smooth, random orbital action at 4,000 RPM speed which attain a professional, swirl-free finish. This UL-listed buffer is double insulated to help protect metal parts from internal metal motor components and has fully-contained bearings for maintenance-free applications. The tool features a 100% terry cloth application bonnet and a synthetic-tufted polishing bonnet that are reusable and has a textured, soft spray on the housing for a comfortable grip.  Check it out over at Ryobi Nation.

Though intended for auto use, if waxing furniture the right way, you will come out with an awesome shine.  People have said, it removes the paint on my product.  If it is removing the paint you are not letting the tool do the job, the paint is not fully dry, or you did not use enough paint.

After painting, I let my Annie Sloan paint color set up overnight (harden so to speak) I never rush a project just to get done.  Once set, I apply the wax with my AS wax brush – let set for a bit.  Once done, I go over the piece with the Ryobi Terry towel first, add additional wax if necessary, then buff it to a shine with the buffing pad. The secret, I never push down when using this tool – I let the buffer do the work – which is why I purchased the tool in the first place 😉 – See our waxed pieces below – What do you think?
